Practice guides · Print production
The things patients actually hold.
A guide to planning treatment guides, patient packs, cards and other printed materials. Ampli5 can help with branding and artwork; appoint and obtain production quotes from your own printer. We have no official print partners.
Be honest about print
Some print works hard. Some of it goes straight in the bin.
We would rather tell you which is which than sell you a full stationery set. A treatment guide sent by WhatsApp within a minute of an enquiry earns its cost many times over. Ten thousand leaflets through doors in a town that already knows you exist usually does not.
The test is whether the item does a job nothing else does. Something a patient takes home and shows a partner is doing a job. A brochure that repeats your website is not.
Worth printing
- Treatment guides for implants, aligners and finance
- A new patient pack that answers the routine questions
- Appointment cards, because people still lose appointments
- Referral cards if you take referrals from other practices
- Window and door graphics, which work on passing trade every day
- Something to hand over at a consultation, so the decision continues at home
Usually not worth it
- Large untargeted leaflet drops in an established catchment
- Brochures that repeat the website word for word
- Branded pens and mugs, unless you enjoy them
- Anything printed before the brand is settled
What we produce
The core set for a practice.
| Item | Typical spec | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment guide | A4, 8 to 16pp, 170gsm | Designed phone first so it can go by WhatsApp within a minute of an enquiry, with a print version for the front desk. |
| New patient pack | A4 folder or 8pp booklet | Answers the routine questions so reception stops answering them one at a time. |
| Business cards | 85 × 55mm, 400gsm, matt | Heavier stock and matt lamination read more expensive and cost very little more. |
| Appointment cards | 85 × 55mm, 350gsm | Uncoated on the reverse so the date can actually be written on. |
| Leaflet or door drop | A5 or DL, 150gsm | Only worth it for new housing, a new practice, or a genuinely new service. |
| Referral card | A6, 350gsm | For referring practices. Small run, high value if you take implant or specialist referrals. |
| Window graphics | Cut vinyl or printed film | Handled by the signage guide rather than the printer. |
Specifications are typical starting points. Ask your chosen printer for advice on stock, finish and quantity, and request physical samples before a large run.
Who prints it
Choosing a print supplier.
Ask potential printers for samples, artwork specifications, itemised production and delivery costs, and a clear proof-approval process. These are selection criteria, not an Ampli5 partner list.
Choose and contract with a printer directly. Ampli5 has no official print supplier relationship or guaranteed at-cost production arrangement.
How it works
Design here, print there, no mark up.
We design
Written and designed to your brand, checked against professional advertising guidance before anything is committed to a print run.
They quote
Ask your chosen printer for an itemised quote covering stock, finish, quantity, proofs and delivery. Agree artwork fees separately.
You approve
A digital proof, and a physical sample for anything large or unusual. Nothing goes to press without your sign off.
They print and deliver
Straight to the practice. For multi site groups, split deliveries per location.
You keep the files
Print ready artwork is yours. If you want to reprint elsewhere later, nothing stops you.
Digital versions too
Every guide is produced as a phone first PDF as well, because most of them are read on a screen rather than on paper.
Straight answers
Common questions about print.
What print does a dental practice actually need?
Appointment cards, business cards, treatment guides or brochures, a new patient pack, referral cards if you take referrals, and window or door graphics. Everything else is usually optional and often unread.
Is print still worth it for a dental practice?
For some things, yes. A treatment guide a patient takes home and shows a partner does work that a web page cannot, because four figure decisions are rarely made alone. Untargeted leaflet drops are a much weaker proposition.
How long does dental print take?
Design usually one to two weeks depending on approvals, then print and delivery typically a further week for standard items. Anything bespoke, or anything needing a proof, takes longer. Plan around six weeks for a practice opening.
Do you charge for print itself?
Ask Ampli5 for an artwork quote if required. Production and delivery are quoted separately by your chosen printer; compare the full cost before ordering.
Can you match our existing brand?
Yes. If you have brand guidelines we work to them. If you do not, we would usually sort the identity first, because printing an inconsistent brand is money spent making the problem more visible.
What paper and finishes should we choose?
For a private practice, heavier stock and a matt laminate reads more expensive than gloss and costs very little more. Ask the printer for physical samples, which is worth doing before committing to a large run.

Need something printed properly?
Tell us what you are trying to achieve rather than what you want printed. Often the answer is fewer items done better, and occasionally it is nothing at all.
