Features

What Dentally does.

The functional areas that matter to a practice owner, and why each one has a commercial consequence rather than just a technical one.

AreaWhat it does, and why it matters
Appointments and diaryMulti surgery diary, recall management and appointment reminders. The diary is where most of a practice team spends its day, so this is the part worth testing in a demo.
Clinical chartingCharting, treatment planning and clinical notes, with the plan feeding through to estimates and billing.
NHS and privateFP17 handling for NHS work alongside private fee scales, which matters for the mixed practices that make up much of UK dentistry.
Patient portal and formsPatient facing tools covering forms, bookings and payments, reducing the amount reception retypes.
ReportingPractice reporting on production, appointments and recall. This is the part marketing needs, because accepted treatment value is one measure alongside attendance, collected revenue and costs.
IntegrationsAn API and a published integration directory covering imaging, accounting, payments, patient messaging and CRM tools including Boxly.

What it looks like

Dentally on screen.

A look at the interface your team would be working in every day. Worth doing a demo before you decide, because how a diary feels at half past eight on a Monday matters more than any feature list.

What users report

The honest picture.

The points below are questions for a demo and independent review, not a verified summary of customer feedback.

Points to assess
  • Cloud based, so it works from any machine with a browser and there is no practice server to maintain
  • Strong integration ecosystem, which matters if you want booking and CRM tools talking to it
  • Published pricing, which is unusual in this market and makes budgeting straightforward
  • Designed around UK practice needs including NHS claim handling
  • Regular updates arrive without a manual upgrade project
Questions to check
  • Ask the vendor to demonstrate common tasks and explain how interface changes are communicated.
  • Ask for a migration plan, including validation of imported records and staff training.
  • Confirm support hours, channels and escalation terms in writing.
  • Price code and fee scale setup takes real effort during onboarding
  • Cloud means you depend on your internet connection, which is a genuine consideration in some premises

Review themes change as products change. Check current reviews on independent directories before making a decision, and ask the vendor directly about anything that concerns you.

Fit

Who it suits, and who it does not.

Likely a good fit
  • Practices wanting to leave a server behind
  • Multi site groups needing access across locations
  • New squat practices with no legacy data
  • Practices that want third party tools connected
Probably look elsewhere
  • Practices with unreliable broadband
  • Teams strongly attached to a legacy interface
  • Anyone unwilling to invest time in migration

Marketing integration

Connecting Dentally to your marketing.

Check the supported connection and actual workflow before agreeing an integration. A booking request, export and live diary connection are different arrangements.

What we set upWhy it matters
Enquiry captureEvery website form, phone call, WhatsApp message and social enquiry landing somewhere consistent, tagged with the campaign that produced it, before anyone touches it.
Booking routeThe shortest path from an advert to an appointment your team can see. Whether that is a direct connection or a fast request and confirm depends on the system.
Call trackingPhone enquiries need source tracking too. Measure their actual share for your practice. call tracking guide.
Instant responseAn automatic acknowledgement can confirm receipt; agree staffed response times and measure whether follow-up improves bookings.
Follow up sequencesA follow-up schedule agreed around the enquiry, the requested channel and the patient’s preferences. Respect opt-outs and avoid indefinite promotional sequences.
Recall and reactivationContact eligible patients using a documented lawful basis, appropriate permissions and working opt-outs. Existing records alone do not establish marketing permission.
Knowing what worked, and reporting itEnquiries, booked, attended, accepted and treatment value, set against spend. One page a month, drawn from your own numbers rather than platform estimates.

Questions and answers

Common questions about Dentally.

Does Dentally do online booking?

Yes, through its patient facing tools, though how directly a website form reaches your diary depends on how your site is built and which features you have enabled. We build the booking route so an appointment reaches the diary without reception retyping it.

How much does Dentally cost in the UK?

Check Dentally’s current UK pricing page and obtain a quote for your surgery count and required features. Do not rely on the older £50/£84/£108 figures or the five-user/5GB limits.

Is Dentally better than Software of Excellence or R4?

They serve different preferences rather than one being better. Dentally is cloud based and updates itself. Established server systems offer deep functionality and familiarity. Migration cost and team disruption usually matter more than the feature comparison.

Can we run marketing campaigns from our Dentally patient list?

Yes, via export. The value is in cleaning and segmenting first, separating a patient who lapsed six months ago from one who was quoted for implants and never proceeded. Consent and opt outs have to be handled properly.

How do we track which advert produced a patient?

By tagging every enquiry with its source, using tracked phone numbers for calls, and recording the outcome consistently. Dentally holds the appointment, the ad platform holds the click, and joining them is a setup job done once.

Does switching to Dentally affect our SEO?

Not directly. What can affect it is a website rebuild alongside the migration, or booking links changing without redirects. We recheck forms, links and tracking at go live because enquiries otherwise stop arriving quietly.

What happens to our data if we leave?

Ask before you join, not after. Export capability is one of the most important questions in any software decision and the answer should be in writing.

Is Dentally suitable for a single surgery practice?

Yes. Per surgery pricing means a small practice pays a small amount, and there is no server to buy or maintain, which often makes the total cost lower than it first appears.
